We foster dialogue between historical works and emerging practices, creating connections across generations, geographies, and cultural perspectives.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"614\" data-end=\"906\">Through research, publishing, and online programmes, we foster communities and advance global discourse on art and cultural practices connected to Japan. We engage critically with questions of representation, visibility, and cultural politics, examining how these shape contemporary artistic and curatorial practices across local, regional, and international contexts.<\/p>\n<h4 data-section-id=\"f157zh\" data-start=\"760\" data-end=\"778\"><span role=\"text\">Activities<\/span><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"780\" data-end=\"1149\">Our work spans a range of interconnected activities that investigate, interpret, and expand diverse modes of cultural production and artistic engagement. Our program includes interviews, talks, research-led projects, and publishing, all grounded in a strong emphasis on critical discourse, transnational identity, and evolving cultural frameworks.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1373\">We are committed to fostering a forward-thinking platform that values creativity, interconnectedness, and collectivity, contributing to a more inclusive and nuanced understanding of Japan\u2019s contemporary cultural landscape.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1373\">Research<\/h4>\n<p>Research focuses on modern and contemporary Japanese art\u2014<em data-start=\"48\" data-end=\"64\">Kindai Bijutsu<\/em>, <em data-start=\"66\" data-end=\"82\">Gendai Bijutsu<\/em>, and <em data-start=\"88\" data-end=\"105\">Kontenporariato<\/em>\u2014spanning prewar (1907\u201345), postwar (1945\u201370s), and recent (1980s\u2013present) periods. Examines Japanese art in relation to global movements, exploring artistic expression across transnational communities and the cultural, political, and aesthetic contexts shaping it.<\/p>\n<h4 data-section-id=\"1az8dtk\" data-start=\"1760\" data-end=\"1781\"><span role=\"text\">Conversations<\/span><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"1783\" data-end=\"2102\">Our conversations provide a platform for participants to articulate their voices in depth. Each unfolds as a distinctive exchange, offering new perspectives while engaging with cultural contexts, creative processes, and critical positions, particularly in relation to diasporic experience and transnational identity.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"auto\">Networks<\/h4>\n<div dir=\"auto\">We place a strong emphasis on cultivating meaningful international networks that situate artistic and curatorial practices within global contexts while remaining attentive to local specificity. Through partnerships and collaborations with institutions, galleries, and recurring contemporary art exhibitions in Japan and beyond, we facilitate opportunities for exchange, transnational engagement, and sustained dialogue.<\/div>\n<p><strong>Editorial<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Through editorials, essays, and critical writing, we examine contemporary artistic and curatorial practices within their historical, social, political, and cultural contexts. Exploring ideas, debates, and conditions that shape artistic production and its reception. By connecting local perspectives with regional and international developments, we aim to foster informed dialogue and contribute to the evolving discourse surrounding contemporary art.<\/p>\n<h4 data-section-id=\"1cncyvz\" data-start=\"2474\" data-end=\"2492\"><span role=\"text\">Publications<\/span><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2494\" data-end=\"2722\">Publishing is central to our mission. From artist monographs to digital publications, our output provides a lasting record of our research and activities, extending critical discourse and making it accessible to wider audiences.<\/p>\n<h4 data-section-id=\"1kcqv7v\" data-start=\"2724\" data-end=\"2744\"><span role=\"text\">Reading Room<\/span><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2746\" data-end=\"3027\">The Reading Room is a dedicated research collection focused on modern and contemporary Japanese art.
